DC officially launches Ken Block’s first-ever TeamWorks Collection on June 1st with the best infomercial ever—introducing the Gymkhana TWO video. Riding on the success of the first Gymkhana Practice video that grabbed the attention of over 20 million viewers worldwide, the high-performance video and Block’s complete TeamWorks Collection will be live at www.dcshoes.com/gymkhanatwo.

Created to honor Block for all of his achievements, the collection features two pairs of shoes, a reversible windbreaker, T-shirt, sweatshirt and hat. Block’s design inspirations for his collection all stem from his Gymkhana TWO car, and each feature his rally sponsors’ colorways and graphics. When given the opportunity to work on a project that reflects his personality as an athlete, he looked at patterns, logos, colors and materials and created his own hand drawn DC logo “Block” print. The print was originally used on his race car, and then was transferred onto both of his shoe models, the Block Spartan High and Block Manteca 3.

Relying on Block’s expertise behind the wheel of a rally car as the cornerstone, the Gymkhana TWO video takes infomercials to the next level. Unlike other infomercials, this one sells the products with great action, cinematography, and a dramatic driving performance—and, no stereotypical cheesy infomercial pitchman. Produced specifically to market Block’s first-ever Rally TeamWorks Collection, the new video is filled with great driving stunts, surprises, explosions, and a guest appearance from DC team rider, Rob Dyrdek. Filmed at the Port of Los Angeles, expect non-stop motor sport eye-candy as Block hits the all-new course in a custom tuned, high performance, and brand-new Subaru Impreza WRX STI.

The new 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI was custom built by Crawford Performance to the unique specifications of Block. Created specifically for this new gymkhana video project, Crawford custom built this new car to the unique driving conditions of gymkhana. The car features high-power performance modifications, including BFGoodrich g-Force KDW tires, tons of custom and unique parts, lots of carbon fiber, and has a custom graphics package and body mods for a unique and striking look.

The gymkhana project started off with the first Gymkhana Practice video that was put on kenblockracing.com, dcshoes.com, YouTube, streetfire.net, Shred or Die and Vimeo with little promotion and became an instant viral success in all circles, capturing over 20 million viewers to date in six short months. Encouraged by this success Block and DC decided to up the ante by elevating the driving and production level in the second video, Gymkhana TWO.

Gymkhana – jim-kah-nuh — is an automotive sport that takes place on an open tarmac area such as a parking lot or old airfield, and requires drivers to push their limits of car control and unlock their true abilities while skillfully maneuvering their cars around a series of cones, slaloms, 180-degree turns, 360-degree turns, figure eight turns or other obstacles using extreme acceleration, braking, and drifting.

For more information on Gymkhana TWO, Block’s DC TeamWorks Collection, behind-the-scenes footage, photos, exclusive interviews, contests and more, visit www.dcshoes.com/gymkhanatwo.

DC is proud to officially announce two new additions to its amateur skateboarding team: Matt Miller and Marquise Henry. Check out their “Welcome, Homies” ad in all the new skate mags, and visit dcskateboarding.tv for their welcome video.

Hailing from Sacramento, Matt is a true street skater. Having tied up a part in the latest TransWorld SKATEboarding video, “And Now”, Matt received well-earned respect and has become known for his monster nollie tricks. 2009 will see two new parts from Matt in Zoo York’s “State of Mind” and DC’s first-ever AM video, coming this Holiday.

Marquise is a skateboarder who everyone knows and recognizes, but is now getting the attention he’s earned and deserves. So humble and always minding his manners, Marquise brings a completely fresh personality to skateboarding. He might have a clean mouth, but his skating lately is straight up nasty. His part in the bonus section of the new Workshop video “Mind Field,” is proof that Marquise is all about raw street skateboarding. ‘Quise is continuing to rack up the footage and photos, traveling the world for DC’s upcoming AM video.

Check out the “Welcome, Homies” video, photos, more of Matt and Marquise, and the DC Skate Team at dcskateboarding.tv.

Rob Dyrdek Twitter Interview: Win a Pair of DC Shoes

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

We’re pretty stoked about this: We’re going to be interviewing Rob Dyrdek live over Twitter. We’ll be asking all the questions on Twitter and Rob will be answering the same way. For those of you familiar with Twitter, you know that messages are limited to 140 characters. This provides a unique challenge being that each question asked by us will be limited to 140 characters and all answers by Rob will also be limited to 140 characters.

To our knowledge, we’ll be the first ones to conduct an interview live over Twitter like this. At least we’ve never seen it done. If you have, let us know and we’ll retract that statement. We’re trying to be innovative and cutting edge and all that schnaz.

Here’s the thing though; we don’t want to be the only ones asking the questions. We want you to have some fun too and help ask some of the questions. And to make it even more interesting, DC has graciously offered to throw in a free pair of shoes to the person who comes up with the best question, which will chosen by Rob.

So submit your questions below in the comments and we’ll narrow it down and use them the best in the interview. Remember though, each question is limited to 140 characters, so if you submit one longer, we won’t be able to use it.

Update: The interview will be going down on Thursday, May 28th in the evening. We’ll give you the exact time at a later date. Monday is the last day to submit your questions for a chance to win the DC shoes. There is no limit on the amount of questions you can submit.

Make sure you follow both 5ones and Rob Dyrdek on Twitter so you can see this go down.

Riding on the success of the first Gymkhana Practice video that grabbed the attention of over 20 million viewers worldwide, DC and Ken Block are producing another gymkhana video. Operating under the project name “Gymkhana TWO,” the video has a target launch date of June 1, 2009. Leading up to the launch of the video, DC will release several teaser videos and behind the scenes photos, exclusive interviews, appearance information, upcoming event details and contests in a new blog section on its website – http://auto.dcshoes.com/features/ken-block-blog/ .

Block, who is a co-founder of DC leading the brand since 1994, is also a member of the DC Rally Team, and is currently working hard to develop the project. Details are still on lock, but the latest gymkhana video will feature a new location, new car, all new footage, and be filled with lots of surprises.

The first pre-release video highlights some of the details of Block’s new car. The 2008 Subaru STi was custom built by Crawford Performance to the unique specifications of Block. Created specifically for this new gymkhana video project, Crawford has custom built this new car to the unique driving conditions of gymkhana. The car features high-power performance modifications, tons of custom and unique parts, lots of carbon fiber, and has a custom graphics package and body mods for a unique and striking look.

Block got involved in gymkhana a few years ago as a way to get more time behind the wheel of rally-related race cars. In his original Gymkhana Practice video released last November, he took traditional gymkhana to the next level, adding buildings, barriers, and, perhaps most insane, donuts around a moving Segway.

“The first gymkhana video was a lot of fun to make and surprised everyone with its viral success,” said Block. “Although it will be tough to one up a guy on a moving Segway, I am going to do my best – I have a couple of surprises lined up. If everything goes as planned, the unique location and obstacles should be pretty amazing.”

As noted, the first of several pre-release videos is now live in a special DC web section at http://auto.dcshoes.com/features/ken-block-blog/. It features sneak peek details of the new highly modified Subaru STi prepared especially for Block.

Stay tuned for more on this exciting project in the very near future.

Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasies Run Deep Tour

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Rob is at it again with yet another cool idea. He’s running screenings of his latest flick “Street Dreams” which is said to depict the most accurate portrayal of a skateboarder’s life.

rob dyrdek fantasies run deep

Well, I would imagine he is meaning compared to everything else that’s been out there thus far. He will be touring with his celebrity cast of skateboarders and doing signings and demos along the way. There will be 23 stops throughout the United States starting in Huntington Beach, California.

The DC website is going to be HQ for the full details but they have yet to put any of the tour detail information up. I hope they choose to do a stop close by; I am fully interested in checking out this movie for myself. The final stop has been said to be in New York City on June 7th at the official DC store that they’ve got over there. The films theatrical release is on June 12th.

Now, I want to say it’s going to be in all theaters but I don’t think that would be quite accurate. It would be cool though, I mean if it’s as raw and true as they make it sound, it would be cool to see something not so cheesy for once. The only downside I could see to any of this would be that perhaps the acting in the movie will be quite horrible. Or who knows, maybe we are in for a surprise. Let’s see which one of the all star cast members is destined for some Jason Lee greatness.

PJ’s Project Granite

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

pjs ledge competition

An online ledge competition? That’s a new one right? To top it off, the grand prize winner gets a buttery granite bench that PJ Ladd was tearing up? Sounds like a recipe for greatness. Judging by the skateboarder they’ve chosen to feature for this contest, I wouldn’t say it’s an easy win. You can probably imagine what kind of tricks he’s going to be doing on the ledge.

The Berrics and DC got together for this contest and you can enter by posting comments on the designated page. There are a host of prizes being given away. You can win his new DC shoes, which cost a whopping $120.00 a pair and probably even more for the gold color way that’s lurking around. Its pretty pimp how PJ is wrecking $120.00 shoes every time he skates don’t you think? Three people will get a year’s supply of gear and 6 pairs of the PJ shoe. At the end of the contest, Mr. Ladd himself will choose the grand prize winner who will have a brand new marble bench. According to the contest officials, if you have an apartment or no space for the bench, they’ll either give you a life long membership to a park where they will place it, or hook you up with $5,000 worth of gear.

I would hardly think the bench costs anywhere remotely near 5k but shoot, that’s what they’re offering. So polish those ledge skills and bust out with the wax because it’s going to be one hell of a contest. They say you have six days to turn in the footage but you know heads are going to be uploading their footage that very same day.

Lafayette Skate Safe Plaza Coming Late Feb ‘09

Friday, February 6th, 2009

lafayette skate safe plazaThe city of Los Angeles will be welcoming a new skate plaza to its vicinity. Rob Dyrdek, DC Shoes, and a massive donation from the dudes running Carl’s Jr. have thrown in the cash for this gem. It will all be completed late February of 2009 , later this month.

I am absolutely mind boggled as to how fast it’s the construction is going to be done. Not only that, but I didn’t even know they were working on another plaza. This one promises to have more of a regular street-spot-flowing feel to it. By the sounds of it; stairs, ledges, and benches will all be a staple in the new plaza. But there also seems to be the customization factor to it; I’m sure that means you can bring in your own obstacles as well and no one would trip on you rearranging things. Sounds pretty awesome to me and a definite add on to the many lists of skate spots I still need to skate. This new plaza will be called the Lafayette Safe Spot.

Perhaps there’s a chain of hassle free skate safe spots to come in the future? I hope so. This is a trend I could definitely get used to! For now, let our mouths water for the temptation of getting our shred on at Lafayette and maybe even go out and support Carl’s Jr. and buy ourselves a Famous Star? Mmmmm.. Yummy….

DC’s Bruce Irons Signature Sandal

Monday, January 19th, 2009

dc bruce irons signature sandal

DC Shoes announced last week that they’re releasing the Bruce Irons signature slippas. Check out that link too, because there’s also a new video commercial for the Bruce that’s pretty cool.

For Spring 2009 DC is proud to unveil Bruce Irons’ signature sandal, the first pro model offered to a member of the small, elite DC surf team. An all-new sandal, it’s been built from the ground up specifically for Bruce, the longest standing member of the DC surf team (on for 10 years).

It’s good to be Bruce Irons. Things couldn’t be going any better for his career since announcing he’s retiring from the world tour. Shortly after he won his first ever WCT event in Indo. We also got news that Volcom is shooting a Bruce video this year with producer Bill Ballard (Archy). And now a signature sandal. Not bad. If only retiring was this good on us all.
